Humor
"The Buddha teaches us that desire is the root of all suffering, and yet desire is an innate component of the human condition. It is an evolutionary force that propels us to reach, grasp, and cling to fleeting sensations, whether they be comfort, food, sex, or power, usually keeping us at odds with the impermanence of our reality yet at the same time ensuring our continual growth as a species, for better for worse.
Eventually, we all must come face-to-face with our deepest desires, whether they be expressed or repressed, and understand our relationship to the raw material of desire itself.
Even our desire to become the best version of ourselves is still, at its core, a desire and can itself become a trap. The incessant desire to become better, more aware, more at peace, more enlightened can be the very thing that keeps us from embodying those exact traits. It’s a paradox that our logical mind cannot escape which is why the ultimate transmutation occurs through the power of humor.
When we give up and simply learn to laugh at the mystery and often nonsensical nature of this human experiment we are all participating in, that is when we graduate to the next level where we can bask in our desires without being attached to them."
